Youthful Memories (Youth today)
In memory of Eugene Faust
The youth of today are in high demand
I see them when I’m walking with my cane
They are into this hip hop thing
I always hear them sing
We had our cool going on too
High heel shoes and beauty parlor do’s
Full skirt to fling
and Hep cats that swing
But if today I move a little slow
it ain’t because I don’t know
I may look a certain way
but my heart is as young as that day
I saw my love come into view
wearing a slick zoot suit
walking all cool and leaning a bit
That man had a look that just wouldn’t quit
Don’t think cause my hair is gray
that my memories have gone away
I can’t understand it to me my mind is so real
I still see the Cadillac with the white wall wheels
First car I ever saw, coming down a dirt road
An awesome sight to behold
It kicked up dust for miles behind
the end of an era, the changing of time
There is as much fire in me
as it was in those days
When the youth pass by
a breath of air starts it aflame
And I remember how I was the same
as many of them that pass me by
when I’m slowly walking with my cane
Too bad they can’t see how much in common we have
My time and experience; their youth and exuberance
